Drawn or Driven

I was recently reading something in which the author expressed how she’d been gently drawn toward Christ, many times over.
My immediate thought was, “You get drawn in. I get driven.” Then I laughed thinking about the many times God has had to knock me off my feet to get my attention.
One of the biggest examples of that happened twenty five years ago. I went on a rollercoaster too many times, and ended up with what was termed a “mild” brain injury. In reality this meant I couldn’t fulfill my duties as a nurse for eighteen months. In fact, I couldn’t concentrate, read, watch TV, or even speak correctly--for a lengthy time.
Just before that happened I’d prayed for something to change in my increasingly stressful life, and God came through with a resounding “YES! I’ll be glad to help you out!”
Of course, it wasn’t in a way I expected, but He designed it perfectly—to not only slow me down, but to prepare me for what was coming next. I didn't know it at that time, but in order to teach my son I'd need some first hand experience with an inability to concentrate.
The telling of that whole journey would be lengthy indeed, so instead of that I’ll leave you with this thought: if you’re God’s child there will certainly be times when He’ll softly draw you into Himself. But … if you’re like me (the go-go-go and never stop kind) you may occasionally require a more drastic approach—more like being driven to Him.
Either way, know that God is good. It may be difficult to see or understand, in what we may perceive as dire circumstances, but He is absolutely good and always knows what we need.
Remember: God will never give us more than He can handle. So lean in, and depend on Him ... whether you’re drawn or driven.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
(Proverbs 3:5&6 (NASB1995)
