Thankful to Clean What I Prayed For

I was looking at a friend’s Facebook posts one day, and happened upon a reel that she’d thoughtfully placed. I don’t remember every detail, but the gist was the man on the reel was thankful for being able to clean the things he’d prayed for.
This past week I've thought about that a lot.
As I dusted my furniture, I thought about it. As I stuffed dishes into the dishwasher, I thought about it. As I made my bed, I thought about it too. Even when scouring the bathroom I thought about that. I caught myself complaining when I was scrubbing a stubborn stain out of a shirt. Then I remembered that reel again, and thought, “Listen to yourself, Pattie. You aren't beating your clothes in a river with a rock!”
There are things in our lives that are increasingly more concerning. Politics, education, health care, and economic systems are not stellar. I'm not discounting those frustrating challenges, but I think that thankfulness starts at home.
Do I remain genuinely thankful for the smaller things, which are the precursors to everything?
As I clean the amenities that make my life easier, I’ve learned a new perspective. That fella wasn’t wrong. How can I complain--even as I clean--when I’m so blessed to have so much?
Truthfully, I didn’t even ask God for everything I have. I wonder if I even prayed before buying my last appliance.
Thankfulness is a choice. For what we pray for, and for what we’ve taken for granted, may we always recognize our blessings!
Psalm 34:1 (NASB1995) “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” (Even when I’m cleaning.)
Have a lovely Thanksgiving weekend, everyone!
Blessings!
