He'll Help You Up Again!
Isn’t it fun to receive something via mail or courier? I’ve been known to order a few things on-line. The whole process has it’s appeal. It’s fun to have something in the online ‘cart’, debate it for a while, and then finally press the BUY button--without having to go anywhere. Of course, it's even more exciting when a smiling delivery person arrives at the door.
This procedure usually works through its paces fairly easily, but sometimes there can be a snag.
I must mention that the day before this particular snag occurred, I’d received a large pull-behind wagon. I’d left this monster of a tote sitting on the floor beside my kitchen island. In my defence, which will become clear shortly, this wagon blended very nicely with the flooring.
When my heavier packages arrived the next day, I asked the delivery man if he’d be so kind as to bring them into the kitchen/dining area, rather than leaving them in the entrance.
He cordially agreed, followed me into our small condo, and began pulling each weighty package off his trolly. As I watched him place the last of them where I'd instructed, I felt a stab of remorse that I hadn’t helped him do the hoisting. Suddenly, believing that money would fix that guilt, I remembered the bill lurking inside my wallet—a perfect one for tipping!
I glimpsed my purse, which was perched on the furthest edge of the island, and rushed toward it.
In my haste, I missed seeing the massive trolley that I’d placed the day before, and in one swoop I tripped and flew right over it, crashing onto my knees. I quickly tried to stabilize my body with the right arm I’d dislocated in spring. Yes, it all hurt.
My face reddened as I thought of the man standing behind me, and I prayed he hadn’t grabbed his phone to video-record what must’ve appeared hilarious from his angle. Needless to say, I wasn't down long. I quickly popped upright while adjusting my glasses, which had flown askew across my forehead.
At one point during this most embarrassing moment, I heard the man ask if I was all right. Truth-be-told, if I’d had a bone protruding from a leg, or my arm, I still would’ve told him I was fine. They say pride comes before a fall, but I've proven that it can occur after, as well.
Happy news, though! My body had been thrown far enough past the wagon that when I obtained a standing position, my purse was very nearby. I grabbed the bill and, albeit limping, followed him to the exit. He didn’t want to take the tip, but I insisted, while apologizing that he’d had to witness that. Then, for some unknown reason, I truthfully admitted what only my closest friends know.
"No worries. I fall all the time," I exclaimed while waving, as he made his expedient escape.
The memory of this happenstance has stayed with me over the last few weeks.
Life is full of times when the wind gets knocked out of us, or when our valley’s so deep that it seems as if we’ll never climb out, or our circumstances knock us for a loop so massive that we want to stay inside that and never get up again.
But take heart! There are verses for believers in Jesus for all of these circumstances!

Isaiah 41: 10 (He strengthens us, helps, and upholds us!)
Isaiah 41: 13 (We are not to fear because He promises to help us!)
Philippians 3: 12-14 (We press on, because we belong to Him!)
No matter what our situation, if we have the Lord as our refuge and strength, it may take some time but we have the assurance that He will help us up again! Sometimes we’ll bounce up quickly, and other times may prove slower, but we have the promise that our God is there, never letting us go.
Grasp the totality of His love, and arise with confidence--even when embarrassed by our own foolish actions. (Talking to myself here.)
God is so good, and proof of that is in His many promises.
Psalm 145:14 - “The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.”
